Marble Music Machine

You are certainly familiar with the glockenspiel, an instrument that produces sounds and plays melodies by hitting metal plates with a mallet. But there is another way. We have replaced the mallets with falling metal balls: a sophisticated mechanism transports the balls upwards into channels that end above the metal plates of the chime. A small minicomputer controls a magnetic slider and releases the ball. This then falls onto the sound plate and “Klong”, a beautiful bell-like sound is created. Through targeted timing, a flood of falling balls is created that creates any melodies, even with multiple voices. Fascinating, right?!
